Project Description

The Upjeevika Foundation established a curriculum focused on encouraging critical thinking in a classroom in Konkan district. It draws on resources developed by other educators and civil society organizations, addressing issues of gender and caste in India. Through pre-and post-intervention surveys, the Fellow assessed the success of the curriculum, and presented the results to district teachers, principals, and elected officials. More concretely, the project introduced a cricket league for girls in the region. In order to ensure project sustainability, the project registered as a non-profit organization continues supporting the girls’ cricket league after the conclusion of the project year. The following year, as a doctoral student, Sameer developed a teacher-training curriculum and hopes to distribute it for borad use across India.
