Project Description

The project seeks to explore an economically viable alternative to coal mining, one that is less damaging to the environment, and which would allow the Navajo to maintain and, in some cases reclaim, traditional life ways, and in other cases try new approaches, while simultaneously helping to reduce their own poverty. The project will assess how previously cast-off wool can be salvaged and sold in US markets – exploring the financial feasibility of several business alternatives and attempting to answer qualitative and quantitative questions about sheep and wool production on the Navajo Nation.
