It is my vision that each one of us gets to live an impactful and happy life without being burdened by solvable public health burdens and health systems challenges.
Project Description
Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medicines making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness, and death. This is one of the top 10 global health threats listed by World Health Organization and a study published in 2022 showed that an estimated 1.27 million people in 2019 died as a result of AMR; more than the combined annual deaths of Malaria and HIV/AIDS that year. However, there have been very little efforts to address this glaring health threat especially in Africa where the highest burden lies. The AMR Ambassadors Program for Young People in Africa is a free fenced project that seeks to empower tertiary-level students from different faculties across the entire African continent to be pro-active AMR champions, and by so doing promoting multidisciplinary engagement and triggering grassroot student-led AMR interventions within the African continent.
