For me, leadership means having self-determining moral principles regardless of social law based on individual cultural contexts, and having the courage to follow those principles despite the strength of hegemonic, structural, or majoritarian forces pushing in the opposite direction.

Iwastology works to provide youth with the analytical skills – using videography and photography as the primary tools – to re-interpret their environmental contexts. Participating students are taught to develop a greater understanding of local and global environmental problems and their dynamics, and subsequently develop their own projects to help tackle the underlining issues. Iwastology has underlined how incredibly important education and the upcoming generation is for creating global change; they are capable, excited, and have the vision to become leaders for environmental and social transformation. We just have to give them the tools with which to do it.
