Imagine a long line of people holding each other's hands. Everyone is walking forward together. There is no one leader – rather everyone is. The line keeps getting longer and longer. Anyone is capable of holding anyone’s hand and everyone is welcome to lend or hold a hand whenever they can/need. Leadership is the moment two people decide to join hands, to connect, to trust, to embody a safe space for one another, and to allow that experience to change them in some small, or maybe big, way. Maybe they keep holding hands forever, or maybe they hold on for some time and then let go...either way, they leave a dot of light in their place, and take a dot of light with them to one day, form the start of a new line of people holding hands...and so on.
Violence-based trauma thrives in silence–often spanning generations and leaving marks on the mind, body and heart. My project centers around creating an interactive online library, sharing stories of those who have experienced violence-based trauma and found their way to healing and peace. Visitors to the library will be given an option to explore the concepts of trauma, violence, healing and peace, and access a network of Healing Hands – a digital space to connect people who have overcome their trauma with those just starting to heal it. As more stories make their way into the library, healing blueprints will begin to form providing a hopeful roadmap for anyone feeling lost on their healing path.
