A leader is someone who actively seeks out opportunities to challenge their biases and prejudices in order to grow, learn, and understand the complexities of multifaceted problems and solutions. Leaders are determined to problem solve and to unite others through ideals of compassion, commitment, and mutual respect for change.
Project Description
This project aims to challenge the recent increase in violence against religious communities around the world. With a focus on the Sikh community, this project has multiple key components including: intensive research and data captures of discrimination across the North American continent, the implementation of a high school curriculum, policies to inform and advance the faith’s religious freedom and expression, events aimed at challenging stereotypes and media bias, and an all-encompassing film documentary. The film documentary will focus on the international plight of Sikhs and the various challenges Sikhs in both the United States and around the world face. Through these efforts, religious community members and individuals who identify otherwise will have more tools, and more access to these tools to help remedy violence, hate crimes, bigotry, and discrimination - not just for Sikhs, but for all people in all parts of the world.
